Hungry codfish

Here's another funny story. I'm not sure this guy is telling the truth, but here it is anyway:

This guy named Andrew Cheatle lost his mobile in the sea. A few days later his girlfriend got a phonecall from that lost mobilenumber. Turns out a fisherman had caught a codfish and had found the mobile inside it's belly.

They swear it's the truth, but I don't know... Sound like one of those urban legends to me.

Kostsamt att gå på toa

Nästan alla jag känner har vid något tilfälle, flugit med Ryanair (eller andra budget-flyg). Jag flög med dem när de var nyetablerade här i Stockholm. Jag tror att det var 1997. Inte mycket har förändrats sedan dess. De var billiga då, och de är fortfarande billiga i dag. Det enda du betalar för när du köper biljetten är, i princip,endast en stol på flyget. Allt annat kostar extra: bagage, snacks, drycker och nu måste du kanske även börja betala för att använda toaletten ombord.

Jag tycker det är en bra idé. Har ni sett hur toaletterna på flygen vanligtvist ser ut? De är ÄCKLIGT! Speciellt om du flyger med ett budget-flyg.
Min teori är att de människor som äcklar sig på toaletterna hör till de människor som inte vill betala £1 för att använda den. På det här sättet kanske toaletterna ombord håller sig någorlunda rena och resten av oss civiliserade människor kanske faktiskt kan använda den.

Almost everyone I know have, at some point, flown with RyanAir (or other lowfare airlines). I actually flew with them withing their first year of establishment here in Stockholm. I think it was back in 1997. Not much has changed since then. They were cheap then, and they're still cheap today. Basically the only thing your paying for when you buy the ticket is a chair on the flight. Everything else costs extra: luggage, snacks, drinks and now you might even have to start paying for using the toilet onboard.

I think it's a good idea. Have you seen the condition the toilets on the flight normally are in? They're NASTY! Especially if you're flying with a lowfare airline.
My theory is that the people who trash the toilets are amongst those who wouldn't want to pay £1 to use it. Maybe this way, the toilet's will stay somewhat clean and the rest of us civilized people actually can use it.

Slumdog Millionaire *Spoiler alert* and Bollywood Fairytales

If you haven't heard about this movie, then you must have been living in a cave for the past month or so! Slumdog Millionaire is a wonderful (and also heartbreaking) story about a boy from the slums of Mumbai, India, going from rags to riches. It has captured the hearts of millions of movie-fans worldwide.


The movie won no less than 8 Oscars at 81st Annual Academy Awards:

Here's the plot summary for those of you who haven't seen it yet:

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. The movie shows the harsh reality in which the kids in the slum reside, the struggles and hardships they have to endure just to survive, and the people who take advantage of them to make a profit. It is all very realistic but still with a touch of Bollywood. Even though this is not a Bollywood production (it's a UK production) it still has a touch of the Bollywood essence in it. What I mean by that is that, though it has a very serious storyline, it still leaves room for hope, dreams and romance. Anything can happen -a boy from the slum can become a millionaire and, at the same time, win back the love of his life by resquing her from the villain's evil hands- in true Bollywood manner (they even have time for a dreamy dance-sequence!).

I'm a big fan of Bollywood. Yes, most of the movies are over the top and highly exaggerated (although they are becoming more and more Hollywood-like). But that's what I love about them.

If I wanted to watch something realistic I'd watch a documentary. The whole point of Bollywood (at least as I see it) is to get a chance to go off to Dreamland where anything is possible. I love the music seemingly coming from nowhere and the caracters dancing and singing for no apparent reason. I love the cheezy lines (people actually talk like that in Bangladesh!) and the poorly choreographed dancemoves. Not to mention the music: there is a song for every mood and occassion in life.

If I were to have a soundtrack to my life, it would definately be in Bollywood-style. Come to think of it, at most of the big life-altering events in my life, they've probably been a bollywood song playing somewhere in the background. If not, I've most likely been singing one in my head!

Filmen visar den hårda verklighet som barnen i slummen lever i , den kamp och smärta de måste uthärda för att överleva, och de människor som utnyttjar dem för att göra en vinst. Den är mycket realistiskt, men har ändå med en känsla av Bollywood. Även om detta inte är en Bollywood produktion (det är en brittisk produktion) har den fortfarande en viss Bollywood magi i den. Vad jag menar med detta är att, trots att den har en mycket allvarlig handling, lämnar den fortfarande utrymme för hopp, drömmar och romantik. Allt kan hända. En pojke från slummen kan bli miljonär och samtidigt vinna tillbaka sitt livs kärlek genom att rädda hennes från de ondas händer. Allt i sann Bollywood anda (de har t o m tid för en dans!).

Jag är en stor beundrare av Bollywood. Ja, de flesta av filmerna är överdrivna (fast de börjar bli mer och mer Hollywood-liknande). Men det är det jag älskar om dem.Om jag ville titta på något realistiskt skulle jag titta på en dokumentär. Hela poängen med Bollywood (åtminstone som jag ser det) är att få en chans att få drömma sig bort till ett ställe där allt är möjligt. Jag älskar musiken som till synes kommer från ingenstans och att de dansar och sjunger utan någon uppenbar anledning. Jag älskar de töntiga replikerna (folk pratar faktiskt så i Bangladesh!) och de dåligt koreograferade danserna. För att inte tala om musiken: det finns en låt för varje humör och tillfälle i livet.Om jag skulle ha ett soundtrack till mitt liv skulle det definitivt vara i Bollywood-stil.

När jag tänker efter så har de flesta stora och livsförändrande skeden i mitt liv förmodligen haft en Bollywood låt spelande någonstans i bakgrunden. Om inte, så har jag definitivt hört en i mitt huvud!
